I'm sure as my Macbook ages, the RAM usage will become less and less efficient.īTW, when I look at the activity monitor with the 8GB Macbook, the graph is still green, but always half way or over. This just gives me comfort and relief that I still have room for my RAM without it overflowing into swap memory. Now I am typing on my new Macbook Air and my memory usage is around 9-10GB with the above apps open and no swap memory. So.I ended up custom ordering a 16GB RAM 512GB Macbook Air.
I consider myself to be a light user because I don't do any of those adobe or lightroom stuff. It's either that what I use just use so much memory, or that 8GB is just not a big enough capacity for users like me. I usually do web-surfing (with IG, youtube, and other tabs open), messaging app, and that 1 game app all at the same time. I don't know what swapped memory really is but I just didn't like the fact that my 'light use' of this laptop has already capped the 8GB RAM and was going into swap memory. :D because I love AppleĪnyways, my 8GB Macbook's Memory usage was always around 6-7GB with hundreds of MB or sometimes over 1GB of swapped memory. youtube, ms word, emails, netflix, 1 game that runs with Rosetta, a few messaging apps, and web-surfing

photoshop, editing, coding, or any sort of professional or expert tasks even as a hobby I brought the 8GB RAM Macbook Air home and started using it for about 3 days, monitoring the Memory usage under Activity Monitor.īy the way, I am NOT an expert on computers, nor do I do any of the following. There are many more to be added to the above list, but I will try to minimize the comparisons. 256GB should be enough as you can suffice with external hard drive 8GPU is unnecessary and is undetectable 8GB should be enough for MOST users with light use
The 8GB performs like a 16GB on Intel-based laptops
I initially purchased 512GB 8GPU 8GB RAM at the Apple Store, after reading and watching TOO MANY Youtube and Reddit posts about the comparison. I also researched a lot on 8GB vs 16GB RAM for so many days before I made my purchase. So I highly recommend the sandisk extreme and they are damn cheap now. Thankfully it was a perfect clone and I recloned my new logic board from it. I hadn't even verified it because this was just a keyboard repair. Logic board without notice and guess what I had cloned my drive to? Yep a new sandisk external. But honestly if I had a base unit and the external ssd I would have ditched the laptop immediately and gotten a 2018. So at year 4 of this laptop finally everything is working. Now at year 4 they went to replace the keyboard which meant bee battery and they did the logic board all free. It wasn't worth that and I realized if I bought a cheaper unit and external storage I could have just traded it in or thrown it away. He basically said I had to send it in and if they charged me $800 to repair whatever (logic board etc) they would do so without asking. The genius told me he thought I had a fake battery as they don't go bad at 55. I got a custom order 2016 with 1tb and loaded. iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch wallpapers. These belong in the beta subreddits listed below.
